Ilana first interned at J. Hettinger Interiors before joining the team as an Associate Designer. She obtained her BS in Business Administration with a focus in Marketing, which helped her become proficient in understanding how to meet the needs of consumers. Growing up with a father as a sculptor and art collector created a great appreciation for all types of decorative arts, as well as understanding the value and joy it brings into the homes and lives of those who embrace it.
Ilana chose to fully commit to a career in Interior Design during her last year in college, which is where she found the University of California, Berkeley Extension Certificate Program in Interior Architecture. This is where she honed her skills in AutoCAD, Photoshop, construction documents, color theory, lighting design, and material selection.
Ilana firmly believes that design should be centred on function for the end user, and without proper functionality the design will not hold its ground over time. She also believes the most important part of the design is driven by understanding your client’s wants and needs, sometimes before they do, and translating those needs into beautiful and functional designs. Ilana’s favourite part about the design process is selecting materials, getting to collaborate with a team, and creating spaces on the computer, both in AutoCAD and 3D modelling software.
Before working at J. Hettinger Interiors, Stephanie got her Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts: Arts and Humanities from Cuesta Community College then transferred to San Francisco State University and received her Bachelor of Science in Interior Design. There she finished at the top of her class completing residential/commercial AutoCAD drawings, SketchUp renderings, presentation boards, and furniture designs. She has always had an interest in interior design, from creating floor plans to decorating her room as a young girl. Her passion and education has driven her to pursue a career in interior design.
Stephanie believes that creating a more functional and beautiful space will allow people to live a fuller and more complete life. She also believes that listening to the client’s needs and wants is crucial for designing a space that will be loved for years to come. In the future, Stephanie aspires to be a designer helping others to create beautiful throughout spaces.
