ECO-STATEMENT

Our Commitment
The J Hettinger family is committed to promoting designs and products that do not adversely affect our clients health or the environment while also increasing the efficiency and functionality of the homes and commercial spaces we design. Whether working directly with clients or integrating eco-friendly practices and technology into our own workspace, we pledge to be responsible and mindful of our impact on the environment, and work to reduce that impact wherever possible. We realize that we are not perfect and that the level of “greenness” each client is comfortable with varies, but we believe that a mindset of environmental stewardship and the use of “best” practices are essential to doing our part to protect our clients and our planet.
LEED Professional Accreditation
From helping our clients select a flooring material that will improve indoor air quality and reduce allergies to consulting on the design of a high-performance green building, our clients can rest assured that our designers have the knowledge, training, and expertise needed to assist them. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, Professional Accreditation is used to distinguish building professionals with the knowledge and skills to successfully steward the LEED certification process. LEED Accredited Professionals (LEED APs) have demonstrated a thorough understanding of green building practices and principles and the LEED Rating System.
Products
We carry many manufacturers that offer green options for our clients; organic fabrics, FSC certified woods, soy based upholstery fill, recycled glass, etc. Expanding on our green-design options is our own exclusively designed, completely customizable line of furniture, JH Studio. Besides being incredibly unique and fashion forward, the JH Studio line is manufactured locally and is customizable with enough eco-friendly options to make even the “greenest” client happy.
Technology
By investing in innovative technology and machinery, we have greatly increased our energy efficiency and significantly reduced our office waste. The good people at Next Energy harnessed the power of the sun by installing top of the line solar panels on our expansive rooftop. Not only has our energy consumption been cut in half, but now our rooftop looks really snazzy!

The interior design business is notoriously paper hungry, whether printing tear sheets for clients or producing blue prints that are reprinted after every revision, we can use more than our fair share of paper. By implementing a movement toward paperless communication, we are now sending most plans and correspondence via email to our clients, vendors, architects and contractors…and all the trees say “hooray!”
Recycling
If it isn’t nailed down there is a chance it may get recycled! We reuse every unused portion of paper; the front, back, and margins. We donate our discontinued design samples to local colleges. We recycle the cardboard and packaging from every furniture delivery. In every aspect of the business, we’re dedicated to reducing our consumption and waste.
